Zenith was founded in 1865 in Le Locle, Switzerland by a 22-year-old clockmaker named Georges Favre-Jacot. Unlike competitors at the time, Zenith made its own movements. By 1875, Zenith employed almost a third of the town’s population to manufacture its pocket watches.

Acclaim for the company's products came fairly quickly. There was a gold medal at the Swiss National Exhibition in 1896, followed by a first prize for chronometers at a Neuchâtel Observatory competition in 1903. By the 1920's, Zenith had introduced its first wristwatches, which were cased in gold and reflected the Art Deco sensibility of the day.

Despite significant global disturbances such as the Great Depression in the 1930's and World War II, production increased until the 1950's, when Zenith was one of the unquestioned leaders in Swiss watchmaking (in that decade, its calibers won prizes from the Neuchâtel Observatory five years in a row).

A typical vintage Zenith dress wristwatch from 1955 had an 18k rose gold case, a silver dial, and a hand-stitched black patent alligator strap. Inside was a 135 caliber, manual-movement chronometer, which at the time was state of the art.

Sports models such as the Pilot, designed to compete with the Rolex Explorer, appeared in the 1960's, but the biggest news of that decade was the 1969 launch of Zenith’s El Primero chronograph movement. Watches from this era with this movement inside are among the most collectible vintage Zenith wristwatches available.

Work on this marvel of watchmaking (150 individual stamps were required to manufacture all its tiny parts) had begun in 1962. Despite subsequent advances in technology, El Primero remains the only integrated chronograph caliber with automatic winding in both directions, and the only mechanical movement to vibrate at a rate of 36,000 beats per hour, making it accurate to within a tenth of a second.

Zenith has a long reputation for the quality and precision of their watches, with 1,565 1st-place precision awards to date. Zenith, is one of the few Swiss watch brands that make their own mechanical movements - the Elite (standard movement) and the El Primero (chronograph). The El Primero movement has a frequency of 36,000 alternations per hour. This high rate allows a resolution of 1/10th of a second and a potential for greater positional accuracy over the more typical chronometer frequency of 28,000 alt per hour.

Ironically, at the same time that Zenith introduced it's greatest movement, quartz arrived to the watch world, an invention that would almost destroy the traditional swiss watch industry in the subsequent years. Zenith takes on the quartz challenge, preserving its precious tooling and waiting for the inevitable comeback of the mechanical movements. While many watch manufacturers ceased to exist during this rough years, Zenith was able to persist in part thanks to supplying its El Primero movement to other prestigious watch makers, the most famous being the Rolex Daytona.

The turn of the century saw Zenith reinvent itself and modernize its timepieces. In 2002 at the Basel watch fair, Zenith launched 4 new movements and 14 new models that represented an overwhelming 52 new variations. There have been several innovations made by Zenith in the 2000's and many new models have been launched. Currently, Zenith has been launching a collection of sport-chic watches entitled DEFY, and are further progressing the modernity of their timepieces.

Zenith was purchased by luxury giant LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennesy) in November 1999, becoming one of several brands in LVMH's watch and jewelry division.

Presently, Zenith markets five watch lines, including the Chronomaster, Class, Port-Royal, Vintage, Defy, Star and the all new Omnipotence.

History of Omega Watch Co

The History of a Successful Company Omega was founded by Louis Brandt at La Chaux – de – Fonds, Switzerland in 1848 as a assembly workshop. In 1879, after his death, his two sons Louis Paul and César started the in-house manufacturing so they started having total production control. One year later, Omega moved into a small factory that became a huge one when 12 months later they bought the entire building. In 1903, they both died leaving the company in 24 years old, Paul Emile Brandt’s hands. Because of the crisis that the Second World War left, he had to work really hard in order to face the economic difficulties. He merged Omega with Tissot calling the new company SSIH. The SSIH group continued to grow and multiply under his leadership and, by the seventies, it had become Switzerland’s number one producer of finished watches and number three in the world.

In 1985, the holding company was taken over by a group of private investors under Nicolas Hayek leadership. It was immediately renamed SMH (Société suisse de Microélectronique et d'Horlogerie). SMH had a rapid growth and success becoming today's top watch producer in the world. Named Swatch Group in 1998, it now includes Blancpain and Breguet.

BRIEF INFORMATION ON SEIKO WRISTWATCHES

The company started with the name Seiko in 1938. However, the original ancestor of the company was a business run by a local clockmaker in Tokyo by the name, Kintaro Hattori. The business was named K. Hattori and later it evolved into a company by the name Seiko corporation, Tokyo. The business originally started as a clock and jewellery shop and in 1892. It began production of clocks under the name Seikosha, which later evolved into Seiko.

Initially the company was named K. Hattori & Co in 1918 and was later named as Hattori Seiko & Co in 1983. Finally, in 1990 it became Seiko corporations. It established various companies under its name such as Seiko Watch Corporation, and became a holding corporation in 2001 and was finally named as Seiko Holdings Corporation in 2007. Although the company produces many different types of clocks and watches, it is particularly famous for its wristwatches.

In 1924, the first watch under the name Seiko was produced. Seiko also has the honour of producing the first quartz watch in the world under the name Astron. Thus by this fact only, one can get a basic idea of the rank of Seiko watches in the world of wristwatches. When this watch was first introduced, its cost was more than that of a medium sized car. However, this watch was a breakthrough in technology and set a new standard, which is being followed to this day.

In 1985 Seiko and orient watches set up a joint factory, which produces millions of watches each year. Seiko watches are known for their reliability and accuracy in time keeping, which is why their watches have been used for official time keeping in major sports events and the Olympic Games, which is also an honourable rank for the company.

The company produces different lines of watches of which, the most famous are Seiko 5, Grand Seiko, King Seiko and Credor. Collectors, due to their high esteem and unique features, treasure these watches as prized possessions. Seiko mechanical watches are especially considered as prized possession by collectors. When it comes to Seiko classic watches, the older a watch, the more precious it is.

Seiko wristwatches range from 50$ to 100,000$, which is certainly a price tag for luxury and high esteem. The Seiko kinetic watches being produced these days take the major portion of their sales in the modern era as they combine the self-energising feature of automatic watches with the high accuracy of quartz in time keeping.

BRIEF HISTORY OF BUCHERER WATCHES

The Carl F. Bucherer brand stands for uncompromising quality as well as highly beautiful and stylish products. It combines the best in watch making craftsmanship with fine jewelry-making skills, yet the watches are created for unique and luxury people who value their time, for independent individuals, for those who make their life on their own.

The Company's background does not refer to the small watch workshop and not to the reputation of the best watchmaker in the county. Carl F. Bucherer and his wife Luiza a priori considered trade of watches as the art work building and selling a luxury life to their customers. Unlike the majority of Swiss companies who would invite their customers to their factories and demonstrate the assembly of their products, Carl F. Bucherer had his customers in his shop where he exhibited the ready models of watches at the best angles to customers to adore and realize that the items were exclusively made for the sake of each of them. That time Carl F. Bucherer did not manufacture watches of his own, he was just able to trade with them perfectly.

Bucherer watch story started in 1888 when a businessman in Flankenplatz, in the resort city Lucerne, at the Lake of Four Cantons in Switzerland, opened his first Watch And Jewelry Store along with his wife Luise. The place was not chosen out of the blue, since Lucerne was one of the most superb and fashionable places in Switzerland gathering the richest tourists in one place. In a while, Bucherer won Switzerland when he opened boutiques in several up-to-the-minute and popular resorts, like Lugano, St. Moritz and Interlaken. In 1915 Bucherer store was opened in Unter den Linden, the central street in Berlin where the luxury and stylish timepieces were in great demand.

Almost in the same period Carl Eduard and Ernst, Bucherer's sons, joined the father. Apart from the real commercial intuition inherited from their father, Ernst was a perfect watchmaker and his talent was officially recognized when he was employed as the official watch maker to William II, Kaiser of Germany. And it was him who created the first timepiece Bucherer branded. Though it was not a watch but a fine and luxury item, this exact model won popularity thanks to women models styled Art Deco.

Carl F. Bucherer brand growth is compared with that of Tiffany & Co., which grew to the reputed manufacturer from the small boutique, and in a while turned into the symbol of the American Jewelry Art. So Bucherer House is the national pride for Swiss people as well as Tiffany & Co. for Americans and Maubousin for the French nation. This company was in the top three companies next to Rolex and Omega which stayed required and reputed and continued manufacturing mechanical timepieces and magnificent watches during the crisis of mechanical watches. On the top of it, few people know about close relations between Ernst Bucherer and Hans Wilsdorf. And less know that the latter is the founder of Rolex, the watch industry. Though unlike Bucherer his name is not in the history tables.

Currently the Bucherer Company is guided by Jörg Bucherer, the grandson of the legendary grandfather. The last achievement of the company is the exclusive model by Carl F. Bucherer to honor the grandfather which includes three collections differing in style and performance. One of them is Pathos, delicate and graceful women wear line. Another one Archimedes, solid and stylish at the same time. And the third one, Patravi, is one of the trendiest hits of the season that matched unique designer watches with multifunctional mechanisms. Each one is exclusive and creative but all of them are luxury, chic and superior. Leaving alone stylish round watches of 40 mm in diameter equipped with all possible functions from Patravi that were much liked by both men and no less confident women. According to Bucherer policy, everyone is worth success and luxury life.
